Da Tang Xiyu Ji (Great Tang Records on the Western Regions) Book 11 The record Xuanzang laid before Emperor Taizong of the Tang after seventeen years of walking through the Western Regions and India, a hundred and thirty-eight countries in all. It is the stuff from which Journey to the West was made, but what stands here is not monsters — it is the compass and the climate and the speech and the faith of one country after another. The road runs two hundred years after Faxian and eighty years before Hyecho.
The country of Moxishifaluobuluo is more than three thousand li around. The great capital city of the country is more than twenty li around. What the soil suits and the customs are the same as in the country of Wusheyanna. They revere the ways of others as their masters and do not believe in the Law of the Buddha. The temples of the gods are several tens, and most of those there are of the company that smears itself with ashes. The king is of Brahman stock, and he does not much revere or believe in the Law of the Buddha.
從此還至瞿折羅國,復北行荒野險磧,經千九百餘里,渡信度大河,至信度國。
From here one returns to the country of Juzheluo, and going north again through waste fields and dangerous sands, after more than one thousand nine hundred li one crosses the great river Xindu and comes to the country of Xindu.
