The oath of Amaterasu and Susanoo
1Susanoo comes up to heaven
Then Hayasusanoo no Mikoto said, "If that is so, I shall tell Amaterasu Ohomikami and then go." When he went up to heaven, the mountains and the rivers all shook and the land quaked.
Amaterasu Ohomikami heard it and was startled, and said, "My younger brother comes up for no good purpose. He means only to take my land."
At once she undid her hair and bound it into mizura. On the mizura at each side, and on her headdress, and on her left hand and her right hand, she wound and held strings of five hundred curved jewels eight spans long. On her back she bore a quiver holding a thousand arrows and beside it a quiver holding five hundred, and on her arm she wore the Itsunotakatomo She set her bow upright with its belly forward, and trod the hard ground until she sank into it to the thigh — "nazumi" — kicking the earth apart like foam snow, and stood treading fiercely like a man, and waited, and asked, "Why have you come up?"
Hayasusanoo no Mikoto answered, "I have no evil heart. Only, by the Ohomikami's command I was asked about my weeping and wailing, and I said, 'I weep because I wish to go to my mother's land.' Then the Ohomikami said, 'You cannot stay in this land,' and drove me out. So I have come up only to say that I am leaving. I have no other heart."
Amaterasu Ohomikami said, "Then how shall I know that your heart is clear and bright?"
Hayasusanoo no Mikoto answered, "Let each of us swear an oath — 'ukehi' — and bear children."

2They swear the oath and bear children
Then, with the Ame no Yasugawa (天安河) between them, they swore — "ukefu." Amaterasu Ohomikami first asked for the ten-hand sword (十拳劍) that Takehayasusanoo no Mikoto wore, broke it into three pieces, rinsed them in the Ame no Manai (天之真名井) with the jewels ringing — "nunatomomoyurani" — and crunched them — "sagaminikamite." The god that came into being from the mist of the breath she blew out was named Takiribime no Mikoto (多紀理毗賣命), whose other name is Okitsushimahime no Mikoto (奧津嶋比賣命). Next was Ichikishimahime no Mikoto (市寸嶋比賣命), whose other name is Sayoribime no Mikoto (狹依毗賣命). Next was Takitsuhime no Mikoto
Hayasusanoo no Mikoto asked for the string of five hundred curved jewels eight spans long that Amaterasu Ohomikami wound on her left mizura, rinsed it in the Ame no Manai with the jewels ringing — "nunatomomoyurani" — crunched it, and the god that came into being from the mist of the breath he blew out was named Masakatsuakatsukachihayahi Ame no Oshihomimi no Mikoto
He also asked for the jewels wound on her right mizura, crunched them, and the god that came into being from the mist of the breath he blew out was named Ame no Hohi no Mikoto He also asked for the jewels wound on her headdress, crunched them, and the god that came into being from the mist of the breath he blew out was named Amatsuhikone no Mikoto He also asked for the jewels wound on her left hand, crunched them, and the god that came into being from the mist of the breath he blew out was named Ikutsuhikone no Mikoto He also asked for the jewels wound on her right hand, crunched them, and the god that came into being from the mist of the breath he blew out was named Kumanokusubi no Mikoto
Then Amaterasu Ohomikami said to Hayasusanoo no Mikoto, "The five male children born later came into being from my things, so they are my own children. The three female children born first came into being from your things, so they are your children." Thus she divided them.
And so, of the gods born first, Takiribime no Mikoto dwells in the Okitsumiya of Munakata (胸形), next Ichikishimahime no Mikoto dwells in the Nakatsumiya of Munakata, and next Takitsuhime no Mikoto dwells in the Hetsumiya of Munakata. These three gods are the great gods of the three shrines worshipped by the Munakata no Kimi (胸形君).
And of the five children born later, the son of Ame no Hohi no Mikoto is Takehiratori no Mikoto (建比良鳥命), and next is Amatsuhikone no Mikoto.

3Susanoo runs wild
Hayasusanoo no Mikoto said to Amaterasu Ohomikami, "My heart was clear and bright, and so the children I bore were gentle girls. By this it is plain that I have won."
Then, carried away by his winning, he broke down the ridges of the paddy fields Amaterasu Ohomikami had made and filled in their ditches, and he spread dung about the hall where she ate the first fruits.
Even so, Amaterasu Ohomikami did not reproach him, and said, "What looks like dung must be what my brother brought up and spread about when he was drunk. And as for breaking down the ridges and filling in the ditches, my brother must have done it because he thought the land was being wasted." She spoke kindly of it, but his evil deeds did not stop and grew worse.
While Amaterasu Ohomikami was in the sacred weaving hall having the gods' garments woven, he made a hole in the roof of that hall, flayed a heavenly dappled horse backward and threw it in. The heavenly woman who was weaving saw it and was startled, and struck her private parts against the shuttle and died.
