The heavenly grandchild comes down天孫降臨
1Ninigi is sent down
Then, by the command of Amaterasu Ohomikami and Takagi no Kami, it was said to the crown prince Masakatsu Akatsu Kachihayahi Ame no Oshihomimi no Mikoto, "It has now been reported that the Ashihara no Nakatsukuni has been made level. So go down, as it has been entrusted to you, and rule it."
Then that crown prince Masakatsu Akatsu Kachihayahi Ame no Oshihomimi no Mikoto answered, "While I was making ready to go down, a child was born. His name is Amenikishi Kuninikishi Amatsuhiko Hikoho no Ninigi no Mikoto It would be well to send this child down."
This child was born of his father Oshihomimi no Mikoto’s union with Yorozuhata Toyoakizushihime no Mikoto (萬幡豐秋津師比賣命), the daughter of Takagi no Kami. The children were Ame no Hoakari no Mikoto (天火明命) and next Hikoho no Ninigi no Mikoto, two gods in all.
So, as had been reported, the charge was laid upon Hikoho no Ninigi no Mikoto: "This Toyoashihara Mizuho no Kuni is the land that you shall rule." Thus it was entrusted to him.
So he was to come down from heaven as he had been commanded. Then, when Hikoho no Ninigi no Mikoto was about to come down, there was a god standing at the eight crossroads of heaven who shone above upon Takamanohara and below upon the Ashihara no Nakatsukuni.
Then, by the command of Amaterasu Ohomikami and Takagi no Kami, it was said to Ame no Uzume no Kami, "You are a frail woman, yet you are a god who outfaces and overcomes the god you meet. So go alone and ask this: 'Who is it that stands thus on the road by which my child comes down from heaven?'"
So when she asked, he answered, "I am a god of this land, and my name is Sarutabiko no Kami (猿田毗古神). The reason I have come out and stand here is this. I heard that the child of the heavenly gods was coming down, so I came out to meet him and waited, to go before him and serve him."
Then Ame no Koyane no Mikoto, Futodama no Mikoto, Ame no Uzume no Mikoto, Ishikoridome no Mikoto, and Tamanoya no Mikoto, five chiefs of companies in all, were sent with him, and he came down from heaven.

3He comes down to the peak of Takachiho
Then the command was given to Amatsuhiko Hikoho no Ninigi no Mikoto. He left the rock seat of heaven, pushed apart the eightfold 'tana' clouds of heaven, and 'itsu no chiwaki chiwakite' — parted them and parted them again in majesty. From the floating bridge of heaven, 'ukijimari sorisori tatashite' — he stood firm upon the floating island, and came down to the peak of Kushifuru (久士布流多氣) at Takachiho (高千穗) in Himuka of Tsukushi.
Then Ame no Oshihi no Mikoto (天忍日命) and Amatsukume no Mikoto (天津久米命), the two of them, bore the stone quivers of heaven on their backs, wore great swords with knobbed hilts at their sides, took up the haji bows of heaven, held the true deer arrows of heaven in their fingers, and stood before him and served.
They are that Ame no Oshihi no Mikoto and that Amatsukume no Mikoto.
Then he said, "This land faces Korea (韓國) and runs straight through to the cape of Kasasa (笠紗). It is a land where the morning sun strikes straight, a land where the evening sun shines bright. So this land is a very good land."
And so saying, he set the pillars of his palace firm on the bedrock below, raised the roof beams high to Takamanohara, and there he dwelt.

4Sarutabiko and the Sarume no Kimi
Then he said to Ame no Uzume no Mikoto, "This Sarutabiko no Ohokami, who went before us and served, was revealed and reported by you alone. So it is for you to see him home. And take up that god's name yourself and serve under it."
So the Sarume no Kimi (猿女君) took up the name of that male god Sarutabiko, and from this came the calling of women Sarume no Kimi.
When that Sarutabiko no Kami was at Azaka (阿耶訶), he went fishing, and his hand was caught and bitten by a hirabu shell, and he sank and drowned in the sea water. The name he bears from the time he sank to the bottom is Sokodoku Mitama The name he bears from the time the sea water 'tsubutatsu' — when the bubbles rise — is Tsubutatsu Mitama The name he bears from the time they 'awasaku' — when the bubbles burst — is Awasaku Mitama
Then she saw Sarutabiko no Kami home and came back. At once she drove together all the things with broad fins and the things with narrow fins, and asked them, "Will you serve the child of the heavenly gods?"
All the fishes said, "We will serve him." Only the sea cucumber did not answer. Then Ame no Uzume no Mikoto said to the sea cucumber, "This mouth is a mouth that does not answer!" And she split its mouth with a small knife on a cord. So to this day the mouth of the sea cucumber is split.
For this reason, in every reign, when the first tribute of Shima (嶋) is offered up, a share is given to the Sarume no Kimi.
