Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) Annals of Silla The oldest surviving history of Korea. It is made up of the annals of Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje, together with the treatises, the tables and the biographies. Kim Busik set his own judgments here and there in passages marked as his comment, so what the compiler doubted and what he rebuked stands there still.

In the seventh year, in spring, the second month, the king heard that the Wa (倭人) had set up a camp on Daemado (對馬島) and were storing weapons and provisions there, planning to fall upon Silla. The king wished to pick out crack troops and strike before they set out, and so break what they had stored up.

Misapum, the seobulhan, said, "Your servant has heard it said, 'Arms are an ill-omened tool, and war is a dangerous business.' How much more so is it to cross a great water and strike others. If by one chance in ten thousand it went badly, there would be no taking it back, however one repented. It would be better to lean on the rough ground and set a barrier there, to hold them off when they come so that they cannot break in, and to go out and take them when the time is easy. This is what is called drawing the enemy on and not being drawn by the enemy, and it is the best of plans."
