Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms) Annals of Baekje The oldest surviving history of Korea. It is made up of the annals of Silla, Goguryeo and Baekje, together with the treatises, the tables and the biographies. Kim Busik set his own judgments here and there in passages marked as his comment, so what the compiler doubted and what he rebuked stands there still.

1King Chaekgye ascends the throne

King Chaekgye (責稽王) was the son of King Goi. He was large of body, and his will and spirit were bold and outstanding. When Goi died, he ascended the throne.

The king called up able-bodied men and repaired the fortress of Wirye. Goguryeo attacked Daebang, and Daebang asked Baekje for help. Before this the king had taken Bogwa, the daughter of the king of Daebang, to wife and made her his lady, and so he said, "Daebang is the country of my wife's father. We cannot but grant what it asks." He sent out troops at last and saved them, and Goguryeo bore a grudge for it. The king feared their raiding, and he repaired the fortresses of Adan and Sa and made ready against them.
