Sona素那
1Sona fights at Adalseong
Sona was a man of Sasan in Baekseong commandery. His father Simna had strength beyond other men, and his body was light and quick.
The border of Sasan lay tangled together with Baekje, and so the two sides raided and struck each other, and not a month was empty of it. Whenever Simna went out to fight, there was no firm line of battle where he turned.
In the years of Inpyeong, Baekseong commandery sent out troops and went to plunder a border town of Baekje. Baekje sent out picked troops and struck them hard, and the Silla soldiers fell back in disorder. Simna alone stood his ground and drew his sword, and he glared with his eyes and shouted loudly, and cut down several dozen men. The bandits were afraid and did not dare face him, and at last they led their troops away.
The men of Baekje pointed to Simna and said, "The flying general of Silla." And they said to one another, "While Simna is still alive, do not go near Baekseong."
Sona was bold and manly, and he had his father's air. After Baekje was gone, Doyugong, the governor of Hanju, asked the great king to send Sona to Adalseong, to guard the northern border.
In the spring of the second year of Sangwon, an eulhae year, Hanseon, the prefect of Adalseong, who held the rank of geupchan, told the people to go out together on a certain day and plant hemp, and let no one break the order. A spy of the Malgal learned of this and went back and told his chief.
When the day came, the people had all gone out of the fortress and were in the fields. The Malgal led their troops in secret and came suddenly into the fortress, and they plundered the whole of it, and the old and the young were at a loss and did not know what to do.
Sona shook out his blade and turned on the enemy, and cried out loudly, "Do you know that Silla has Sona, the son of Simna? Truly I do not fear death and scheme to live. Let those who wish to fight come forward."
Then in his anger he charged the enemy, and the enemy did not dare press him, but only shot at him from where they stood.

2Sona dies and his wife speaks
Sona shot back as well, and the flying arrows were like a swarm of bees. From the hour of jin to the hour of yu they fought, and the arrows in Sona's body were like the spines of a hedgehog, and at last he fell and died.
Sona's wife was a woman of a good house in Garim commandery. At first, because Adalseong lay next to an enemy country, Sona went there alone and left his wife at home.
When the people of the commandery heard that Sona had died they came to mourn him, and his wife wept and answered them, "My husband always said, 'A man should rightly die in battle. How can he lie on a bed and die in the hands of his household?' Such were his words in ordinary days, and now his death is as he wished."
The great king heard of it, and his tears wet the front of his robe, and he said, "Father and son were brave in the affairs of the state. It may be said that they carried loyalty and right through the generations." He gave Sona the rank of japchan after his death.
