七十二國通典云“朝鮮之遺民分爲七十餘國,皆地方百里.”後漢書云“西漢以朝鮮舊地初置為四郡後置二府,法令漸煩分爲七十八國各萬户〔馬韓在西有五十四小邑皆稱國,辰韓在東有十二小邑稱國,卞韓在南有十二小邑各稱國.〕.”
The Seventy-Two States.
The Tongdian says: "The remaining people of Joseon were divided into seventy-odd states, each with land a hundred li on a side."
The Book of Later Han says: "Western Han first set up four commanderies in the old land of Joseon, and later set up two prefectures. As the laws and orders grew ever more troublesome, they were divided into seventy-eight states, each of ten thousand households."
〔Mahan lies in the west and has fifty-four small towns, all called states. Jinhan lies in the east and has twelve small towns called states. Byeonhan lies in the south and has twelve small towns, each called a state.〕
