The Country of Khotan于闐國
Wang Ocheonchukguk Jeon (Memoir of the Pilgrimage to the Five Regions of India) Complete in one volume The travel record of Hyecho, a monk of Silla, who at about twenty walked forty countries of India and the Western Regions and set down what he saw. It was lost for more than a thousand years and was found again in 1908 in the caves of Dunhuang, as a damaged scroll. Five poems in five-word lines, longing for home, are carried in it.
1East of here is the land of the Great Tang
又安西南去于闐國二千里。亦足漢軍馬領押。足寺足僧。行大乘法。不食肉也。從此已東。並是大唐境界。諸人共知。不言可悉
Again, two thousand li south of Anxi is the country of Khotan (于闐國). Here too the troops and horses of Han are enough to keep guard. There are many monasteries and many monks, they practise the Law of the Great Vehicle, and they do not eat meat. From here eastward all is the territory of the Great Tang (大唐). All men know this together, and it need not be said to be understood.
