The Country of Jiezhuwaqiluo
The country of Jiezhuwaqiluo is more than two thousand li around. The land has many springs and is damp, and planting and reaping are rich and thriving. The climate is warm and the customs are gentle. They honor high ability with a full heart and hold learning and the arts in high esteem. There are six or seven monasteries and more than three hundred monks. There are ten temples of the gods, and followers of other ways live mixed among them. For some hundreds of years the royal house has had no heir, and the country is bound in service to a neighboring country, so the walled towns have become mounds and ruins and most of the people live in villages. For that reason King Jieri, when he traveled in East India, built a palace here and governed the business of the many countries. When he came he thatched reeds for a roof, and when he left he set fire to it and burned it. On the southern border of the country there are many wild elephants. On the northern border, not far from the Qingqie river, there is a great high terrace, raised by piling up brick and stone. Its foundation is broad and stands up tall, and the carving on it is of rare work. Round its four faces are cut the images of the many holy ones, and the Buddha and the other forms are made each apart from the rest.
From here one crosses the Qingqie river to the east and goes more than six hundred li, and comes to the country of Bennafatanna.
